Ask anyone in Singapore and they will tell you that Chicken rice is an iconic dish here. Enjoyed by locals and tourists alike, each area in the city has its own renowned spots for this delectable meal. Think fragrant rice cooked in chicken broth, succulent chicken meat with crispy roasted skin, a bowl of warm, hearty soup paired with spicy, homemade chilli. The sheer thought of the dish is enough to make us drool at our desks. If you, like us, are huge fans of chicken rice, here is a list of best chicken rice stalls in each area.
Let’s begin with the best side of the lot, the East. Honestly, there’s more than one stall that serves exceptional chicken rice. But the winner, for us, will have to be Bruce Lee Chicken Rice. This hidden spot in East Coast Road will get you going back for more. Although a tad bit unconventional, an order of roasted chicken rice will get you a plate of chicken coupled with a medley of vegetables (bean sprouts, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and braised tofu) doused in a secret savoury sauce. It also comes with an unlimited serving of achar! And in true Bruce Lee fashion, the chilli here packs a punch and will surely get you screaming for waataah!

North Side
Another household name is Yishun 925 Hainanese Chicken Rice. This stall has been a staple in the North for years. Known for its flavorful chicken and perfectly cooked, aromatic rice, the stall draws crowds from all over the island. But is it worth traveling down to the North for? You bet it is. They have also branched out over several areas, where the remain consistent in quality to give people what they want. You can expect tender and moist chicken, and a serving that’s full of robust flavor! The chicken rice here also comes with a tiny side of achar. Be sure to get to the original stall early to avoid a long queue.

South Side
On to the South we have Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice. Also known as the late Anthony Bourdain’s favourite joint. Located at Maxwell Food Centre, Tian Tian is known for their juicy chicken and rice that’s chock full of flavor. A bowl of soup, chilli and ginger paste are provided here, making it the perfect accompaniments to your chicken rice experience. Don’t believe men? This stall’s long queues are a testament to its quality and reputation.
Where: 1 Kadayanallur St, #01-10/11 Maxwell Food Centre, Singapore 069184
West Side
Finally, we have the West Side. Admittedly, this is an area that’s less frequented by many. And tucked away in this ulu area, we have Hoe Kee Kitchen located in Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre. Known for its steamed chicken rice, Hoe Kee Kitchen was also included in the Michelin Guide Singapore with a Michelin Plate in 2023. It’s also famous for its affordable price, at only $2 per plate. Despite its official closing time of 6pm (as listed on Google), they are notorious for selling out by late lunch time, with a queue sometimes forming before their official opening hours of 10am. Talk about a hit!

Final Thoughts
Whether you’re in the East, North, South, or West of Singapore, you can find top-notch and highly raved about chicken rice stalls that do justice to the nation’s unofficial national dish. Each stall offers a unique take on this classic meal, making your trip down worthwhile. It wasn’t easy narrowing down one stall from each area, but we did it. However, we do understand that taste is subjective so don’t come for us if you feel like any of the stalls above aren’t the best that Singapore has to offer!

When choosing the best food delivery app in Singapore, it’s crucial to pick an app that suits your specific needs and preferences.
Here’s a breakdown of how to make the best decision based on your personal dining habits, convenience, and value for money.
Variety and Selection
One of the most significant factors to consider is the variety of food options each app offers. If you’re someone who enjoys exploring different cuisines, whether it’s local hawker favorites or international fare, Grab offers a broad range of selections that cater to both traditional tastes and new, trendy spots. This app stands out for its extensive selection of eateries, from budget-friendly hawker stalls to high-end dining.
On the other hand, if you prefer ordering from premium, mid-to-high-end restaurants or if you’re looking for exclusive dining experiences, Deliveroo may be more suited to your needs. The app is known for partnering with many fine dining establishments, which can be perfect if you’re looking to indulge in a special meal.
If you’re someone who prefers the sheer convenience of having all kinds of food options at your fingertips, including affordable options from hawker stalls, FoodPanda shines with its broad range of food choices. With an extensive variety, it caters to different budgets, making it a go-to option for anyone who wants flexibility in their orders.
User-Friendly Experience
Ease of use plays a significant role in deciding which app to download and use regularly. Grab’s user-friendly interface makes it easy to navigate between ordering food, paying, and redeeming rewards. Since Grab is also integrated with GrabPay and GrabRewards, you can easily pay and accumulate rewards points that can be redeemed for discounts, making it a practical choice if you’re already using Grab for ride-sharing or delivery services.
Deliveroo also offers an intuitive experience, with features like real-time tracking, scheduled deliveries, and the added benefit of Deliveroo Plus. This subscription service provides free delivery and exclusive deals, which is an appealing option if you order frequently. The app’s design is sleek, and its real-time tracking ensures you know exactly when to expect your order, minimizing any waiting time.
FoodPanda also excels in user experience, offering an easy-to-use interface that allows customers to quickly browse through a wide variety of food choices. One of the key features of FoodPanda is PandaMart, which lets you order groceries along with meals. Additionally, FoodPanda’s recent addition of PandaGo introduces another layer of convenience, offering delivery services for a wider range of needs beyond just food.
Speed and Reliability
Speed is a major factor when it comes to food delivery. Everyone wants their meal delivered hot and fresh, and the faster the better. Grab has built a reputation for being reliable, with a broad network of restaurants that ensures prompt deliveries. However, it’s important to note that, while Grab offers a solid delivery time, its speed may vary depending on your location and the time of day.
Deliveroo is known for its excellent speed and premium restaurant partnerships. With its strong network of delivery riders and quick dispatch system, Deliveroo ensures your meal arrives quickly. This makes it an ideal choice for those looking for high-quality meals delivered without delays.
FoodPanda is a strong contender for speed as well, with a vast delivery network covering most areas in Singapore. It has a consistent track record of fast deliveries, especially in urban areas, and is often a preferred choice for those ordering from hawker stalls or casual dining places. While its network is extensive, delivery times can occasionally vary depending on your proximity to the restaurant or the area’s traffic conditions.
Promotions and Discounts
Who doesn’t love discounts? One of the best ways to get more value for your money when ordering food is to take advantage of promotions. Grab offers frequent promotions and discounts, and you can also earn GrabRewards points with each order. These points can be redeemed for discounts or used across other Grab services, such as ride-sharing or GrabExpress deliveries.
Deliveroo offers a similar setup with its Deliveroo Plus subscription, which provides free delivery and exclusive discounts for subscribers. If you order food often, this can be a great way to save on delivery fees and enjoy perks.
FoodPanda regularly offers promotions, discounts, and vouchers, making it the most cost-effective option for frequent users. Additionally, with its large selection of food types and restaurant tiers, it gives users the ability to enjoy deals no matter their budget.
Additional Services and Convenience
Sometimes, the app that offers the most convenience and additional services will win out. Grab stands out by being integrated with the broader Grab ecosystem, offering a seamless experience for ride-sharing, food delivery, and even payments. If you’re a regular Grab user, you’ll appreciate the ease with which you can navigate between services.
Deliveroo offers exclusive restaurant partnerships, creating a unique dining experience for those who enjoy fine dining or prefer exploring exclusive menus not available on other platforms. This makes Deliveroo the perfect choice for foodies who enjoy a premium experience with a little extra flair.
FoodPanda’s additional service, PandaMart, offers grocery delivery alongside meals, making it an excellent all-in-one platform. Whether you need to restock your pantry or pick up your meal, PandaMart streamlines the process for you. Additionally, PandaGo extends the convenience of deliveries beyond food, including parcels and items from various stores.
If variety, speed, and value for money are your priorities, FoodPanda is a great all-rounder. However, if you’re looking for a premium dining experience, Deliveroo’s fine-dining options and exclusive partnerships might be your best bet. For those already within the Grab ecosystem, Grab offers a seamless experience with added benefits like GrabRewards and GrabPay integration.
Ultimately, the best food delivery app is the one that aligns with your needs — whether that’s the broadest variety, speed, exclusive deals, or convenience. With these three apps, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect solution for satisfying your cravings and making your dining experience hassle-free. While each app has its own strengths and along with many, most of us will opt for the one that gives the best rates.
